Overview
Foodminder helps you keep track of the food in your fridge and larder so you can use it up before it goes to waste. To do that, we handle a small amount of information about you and your kitchen. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details such as your name and email address.
- The food items, storage locations and dates you add to your kitchen.
- Messages you send us through the contact form or support.
Camera, scans & barcodes
- Receipt and product photos. When you use the AI scan feature, the image you capture is sent to our service so it can read the items on it and add them to your kitchen for you. We use these images to extract the food items and do not use them to identify you.
- Barcodes. When you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is looked up against a product database to fill in the item's details. We send only the barcode, not your photo.
- You can always add items by hand instead of using the camera, and we only access your camera while a scan is in progress.
Information collected automatically
- Basic device and app information needed to run the service.
- Anonymous usage events that help us understand which features are useful.
How we use your information
- To run your inventory, send expiry reminders and suggest recipes.
- To read the receipts and products you scan so we can add items to your kitchen automatically.
- To look up scanned barcodes and fill in product details.
- To respond to your questions and provide support.
- To improve Foodminder and keep it secure.
- To send you occasional product updates, which you can opt out of at any time.
Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us operate the app — for example, hosting and email delivery, the AI service that reads your scanned receipts and products, and the product database we query to identify scanned barcodes — under agreements that require them to protect it, and where required by law.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete items or your whole account at any time, after which we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to keep it.

- Opt out of marketing messages.
- Control reminders and notifications from within the app.

Cookies & tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand aggregate usage. You can control these through your browser or device settings.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to safeguard your information and will tell you promptly if anything material changes.
Children's privacy
Foodminder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the date below and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
